To showcase mastery of the 5-step micro-pathway design process used by Education Design Lab's Community College Growth Engine, users will submit a portfolio of artifacts from each design phase including Foundations of Design, Understand, Design + Ideate, Prototype + Iterate, and Launch. These artifacts will highlight the key competencies embedded in various design tools, demonstrating how they lead to transformational change through the implementation of micro-pathways.
Standards
In the Foundations of Design phase, designers gather data to understand their ecosystem and determine their "why." They establish processes to identify high-growth careers and underserved populations and communicate their efforts internally and externally. This fosters a deep understanding of complex issues, personal growth, agency, and belonging.
In the Understand Phase, designers focus on learner and employer engagement, using tools like T-profiles and learner journey maps to understand proximate needs. This guides the design of targeted micro-pathways bridging education and employment gaps.
In the Design + Ideate Phase, designers translate insights into concrete pathways. Faculty engagement, curriculum mapping, and prototype development ensure pathways are well-designed, feasible, and aligned with learner and employer needs. This sets the stage for effective implementation.
In the Prototype + Iterate Phase, designers refine pathways through funding, marketing, and feedback. Tools like learner journey mapping ensure continuous improvement, aligning pathways with stakeholder needs.
In the Launch Phase, designers implement pathways, maintain marketing, and refine learner experience. It's the shift from planning to action, prioritizing effective delivery and iterative improvements based on feedback.
