Earning Criteria

Accrue 2 years of full-time dispensing experience or a diploma from select Hearing Instrument Sciences colleges (go to NBC-HIS.com for a full listing).
Provide proof of a current State/Provincial dispensing license or Certificate of Registration (where applicable) when applying and every three years for recertification.
Agree to abide by the NBC-HIS guideline declarations when applying and re-attest to this every three years for recertification.
Pass the National Competency Examination. This advanced psychometric exam is based on practical knowledge of dispensing and decision-making capability designed to test the knowledge and skill levels required to excel as a hearing health professional in the industry.
Adhere to a strict Code of Ethics to ensure professional conduct and consumer safety standards are met.
Meet recertification criteria every three years. Recertification ensures all board certificants are staying up to date on current topics through continuing education requirements and have a current practicing license.
Accumulate 24 hours of approved Continuing Education credits (CEs) within their three year recertification cycle.
Pay an annual fee and adhere to the policies of certification.
