Earning Criteria

Hold at least a 4-year, U.S. bachelor's degree or international equivalent.

Evidence of academic coursework in science, technology, engineering or mathematics

Evidence of academic or continuing education coursework in occupational health/industrial hygiene, toxicology, fundamentals, measurements and controls.

Evidence of a minimum of 2 hours of coursework in ethics.

Supervisory and professional references documenting professional-level, broad-scope work experience in industrial hygiene (IH); occupational health (OH); occupational health and safety (OHs); or occupational, environment, health and safety (OEHS). Work samples may substituted for professional references, if necessary.

Pass a rigorous certification exam of 180 multiple-choice questions (150 scored questions plus 30 pilot questions).

Applicants, candidates, and certified practitioners agree to uphold the BGC Code of Ethics and must practice ethically.

Recertification requires documentation of knowledge, skill, and ethics requirements every 5 years.
