EMWA is the European Medical Writers Association, a network of professionals that represents, supports and trains medical communicators in Europe and beyond. It is a not-for-profit organisation that is run for its members by its members. EMWA is for medical writers and communicators at all stages of their careers and all sectors of their profession, including regulatory and clinical writing, medical communications, publishing, and medical translations.

Earning Criteria

The EMWA Professional Development Programme (EPDP) provides high-quality training for medical writers through workshops and homework assignments. All EPDP workshops are approved by the EMWA Professional Development Committee (EPDC) and led by people with extensive professional experience in the topic. Workshops are interactive, with presentations from the workshop leader, group exercises and time for questions and discussion.
An EMWA Foundation Certificate shows that its holder has gained 8 credits by attending EPDP foundation workshops and successfully completing the associated pre- and post- workshop assignments, as assessed by the workshop leader. It takes at least 1 year to gain the credits for a certificate. An EMWA certificate is not an endorsement by EMWA of the holder’s professional competence.
