Suicide First Aid

The 1-day in-depth programme teaches the individual to identify and give support to a person in mental health crisis, who is contemplating or attempting suicide. The individual is given knowledge and strategies to enable them to provide support for an extended period until a mental health professional can take over. The programme promotes population-based suicide prevention and is therefore open to all.

Earning Criteria

The individual has in-depth knowledge of concepts in Suicide Prevention, including a 3-stage suicide intervention approach with emphasis on First Aid. The individual has gained in-depth knowledge of how to identify individuals who are at risk, how to approach them, and how to provide appropriate support until a mental health professional can intervene. The individual is able to action-plan the support process for individual cases.
