Earning Criteria

Complete 12 assignments to assess the candidate's ability to articulate and apply the Standards; identify areas of risk and appropriately respond to crises; develop policies and procedures to improve student preparation for study abroad; draft and implement policies that are fair, ethical and transparent; appropriately respond to student conduct issues; provide guidance to stakeholders (faculty, staff, administration) on the Standards and assess operations based on these Standards.

Complete a Culminating Project: Drawing upon the Standards of Good Practice, Prompts for Self-Assessment, and the Code of Ethics. Certified Professionals have completed a position paper to address up to three challenges and have described in detail deliverables (e.g., training, handbooks, policy statements) to address these challenges. They have identified appropriate resources to support their recommendations.

Assignments meet established rubrics as determined by Forum Certified Assessors, professionals in the field with senior level experience and in depth knowledge of the Standards of Good Practice. Participants resubmit assignments to incorporate feedback from the assessors until the assignment meets the competency requirement.
Standards
The Forum on Education Abroad is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization for Education Abroad. The Forum develops and disseminates comprehensive Standards of Good Practice for the field of education abroad.
