Earning Criteria

This badge earner must perform in a decision-making role for the completion of PV installations equaling at least 6 Project Credits. For each completed PV system, the badge earner must submit documentation that summarizes system information, authenticates system approval by a governing body in the form of permits and final inspections, and verifies their decision-making role.

This badge earner must complete a minimum of 58 hours of advanced PV training. The badge earner must also show proof of completion of a minimum of 10 hours of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry, or a regional/international equivalent.

This badge earner must pass a proctored exam complete with identity verification at an authorized testing center.

This badge earner must agree to adhere to the NABCEP Code of Ethics & Standards of Conduct.

The badge earner must complete 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years to maintain their Board Certification.
Standards
NABCEP's PV Installation Professional program is ANSI Accredited (Accreditation ID #0702). NABCEP follows ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standards for conformity assessment, which provides a global benchmark for personnel certification programs to ensure that they operate in a consistent, comparable and reliable manner worldwide.
This exam follows the National Electrical Code (NEC), or NFPA 70, which is a standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in the United States.
NABCEP Board Certified Professionals must follow the NABCEP Code of Ethics & Standards of Conduct which requires compliance with laws, policies, and rules relating to the profession, professional practice, client privacy, conflicts of interest, and more.
