The badge earner is an IBM employee who was accepted through a competitive application process as a candidate for the Smarter Cities Challenge and participated on a 3 week Smarter Cities Challenge project. The Smarter Cities Challenge is an IBM award winning philanthropic immersion program for IBM executives and high performers. IBMers are deployed to cities where they work in teams of 5-6 to address a winning city's top strategic challenge.

Earning Criteria

Be an employee of IBM
Be accepted in the Challenge and deployed on a team - this is a competitive program where a very small percentage (about 10%) of people who are invited to apply are accepted and deployed.
Complete the 3-week assignment in the grant city, demonstrating teamwork and Design Thinking practices. Each team must organize themselves while on assignment, develop and implement a solution, and present a Final Report.
Post assignment work includes: completing the editing of the final report; serving as a mentor to future teams (voluntary); serving as an SME for future teams (voluntary); being available for press interviews if requested; sharing their experience both internally and externally and finally promoting SCC and CSC to their employees and being supportive of allowing their staff members to apply and possibly participate in the program.
