Earners of the Commissioner Badge have substantial experience as an educator and/or practitioner in one or more of the disciplines represented by their commission in the areas of applied and natural science, computing, engineering or engineering technology. Collectively, commissioners are responsible for reviewing educational programs, making the final accreditation decision for each program and continuous review and enhancement of criteria, policies and procedures.

Earning Criteria

Completed formal Program Evaluator Training, New Commissioner Training and their accreditation commission’s Team Chair training.
Experience as a Program Evaluator on at least three ABET visit teams.
Nomination from an ABET member society and subsequent approval by majority vote of current commission membership.
Exhibit the following knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the Team Chair Competency Model: leadership, good team manager, organized and responsive, effective communicator, technically current and professional.
