Designed to prepare eye care practitioners with advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary for diagnosis and management of common childhood vision disorders. The course emphasises the importance of the comprehensive childhood vision examination, the management of childhood refractive error, evaluation and management of common childhood strabismus and diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia.

- Apply an evidence-based approach to the communication with, and examination of, an infant or young child
- Apply research evidence to clinical decision making
- Assess visual function, ocular alignment and motility, refractive status, and ocular health of infants and pre-literate children and interpret clinical findings
- Develop and communicate management plans (including relevant prescribing of optical correction) to parents/guardians and other health professionals
- Diagnose, classify and manage childhood strabismus
- Diagnose common paediatric eye conditions

Standards
This course is worth 3 UNSW Medicine & Health Executive Certificate in Health (FMECH) credit points. The FMECH credit provides formal recognition of professional development and reflects 30 hours of learning.
