This person has successfully demonstrated all of the competencies required to achieve the Stage 2 Certificate in Mathematics. They have developed skills in working with whole numbers, fractions, measurements of mass, length, capacity and time. They can grasp concepts of shape, space, perimeter, area and volume. They can construct and interpret basic tables, charts and line graphs. They have developed skills in working with whole numbers to a million and decimal fractions to thousandths.

They can distinguish between numbers of different magnitude, understand how to work with imperial and metric units and convert between them. They can use units of time and temperature in everyday contexts and understand how to work with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers without the use of a calculator. They can express simple numerical information as percentages and calculate percentages of numbers.

They can round numbers to the nearest whole number, ten, hundred and thousand and to one or two decimal places. They can read and use scales on maps and plans and can solve simple ratio and proportion problems. They can calculate the arithmetic mean and range of a set of data as well as being able to solve simple equations. They can work with shape and space to find angles and calculate perimeter, area and volume.
