Human Rights Advocacy

Earners will understand the best practices of the international human rights movement and apply them in their own community. Earners will understand international human rights standards and explore the strategies and tactics successful advocates use to promote change. Earners will practice being changemakers in their own communities by serving in a rights-based/justice-oriented organization and organizing advocacy activities that highlight and challenge injustice.

Earning Criteria

Complete ten hours of learning, consisting of two activities and three reflections.

Complete the human rights field experience through one semester of on-campus social-justice leadership and participation, or thirty hours of engagement with a justice-oriented or community-based organization.
Standards
Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals.
Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.
Demonstrate the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills required to equitably engage and include people from different local and global cultures. Engage in anti-racist practices that actively challenge the systems, structures, and policies of racism.
