Earning Criteria

Elected by the AAMFT membership and serve a term of three years.

Active Board Membership: Individuals must serve as active members of the organization.

Completion of a hybrid one-day AAMFT Governance Orientation with online training.

Strong understanding and commitment to Policy Governance utilizing knowledge-based questions to analyze all Board strategic decisions.

Participated in generative strategic discussions focused on the future direction of the association.

The Board Director has shown: Duty of Care, requiring directors to act in a reasonable and informed manner with participating in the board’s decisions and its oversight of the corporation’s management. Board Directors are entrusted with the responsibility to ensure prudent use of all assets, including facilities, people, and goodwill. They must exercise diligence and care in decision-making to safeguard the organization’s interests.

The Board Director has shown: Duty of Loyalty, requiring that elected leaders exercise their powers in good faith and the best interests of the corporation, rather than in their own interests or the interests of another entity or person.
