Physical Abilities Training Program

The Physical Abilities Training Program micro-credential is awarded to participants who have success complete the required training components. Participants are required to participate in the Workers for Sustainable Employment Program, the Get into Energy (GIE) Math & Test Prep Program, Pass the Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System (CAST) examination, and complete the Physical Abilities Training Program in order to receive this micro-credential.

Earning Criteria

Participants who have earned this credential have completed the Workers in Sustainable Employment, a 42 hour program. The program consisted of the following sessions: welcome, work habits and safety overview; construction industry; energy industry; résumé writing; coaching and résumé review; team building; sexual harassment and conflict management; applications process session; interviewing and networking; technical skills and pre-employment testing and wrap-up.

Participants who have earned this credential have completed the Workers in Sustainable Employment, a 48 hour program. Participants are required to have a math level of 9th grade for this program. Participants receive review and instruction on the four areas cover in the Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System (CAST) examination. The instruction covers: general math, mechanical principles, relationships, and logical conclusions.

Participants who have earned this credential have completed the Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System (CAST) examination. The examination tests participants on four performance-based objectives. Objective 1 (Perform basic mathematical operations involving, Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, and Basic Geometry. Objective 2 (Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical principles including: Force, Laws of Motion, Friction, Pressure, Energy, Work, Simple machines, Mechanical Advantage, and Gears.

(continued) Participants who have earned this credential have completed the Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System (CAST) examination. Objective 3: Identify relationships among objects in a drawing and use the dimensions to compute distances, areas, and ratios. Objective 4: Read, analyze, and draw logical conclusions from information read.

Participants who have earned this credential have completed the Physical Abilities Training Program, 32 hour program. The program includes sessions on safety, stretching (warmup exercises), basic electricity, job briefing/tail boarding, personal protective equipment, fall protection equipment, ladder safety, basic pole climbing, basic rope knots and hand line, and fall restraint/buck squeeze. This course is designed to prepare participants for the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

Participants who have earned this credential have earned the American Heart Association's Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

Participants who have earned this credential have earned the OSHA Outreach 10-Hour Training Certification.
