Earning Criteria

Earner has gained experience in, and is able to lead on, a range of practical conservation tasks, demonstrating underlying knowledge of legislation relating to habitat management (regional designations) and protected species that may affect practical conservation tasks. Earner has gained knowledge and awareness of best practice when working in archeologically and historically sensitive areas and be familiar with associated protective legislation.

Earner has demonstrated competence in leading conservation tasks with volunteers. They have gained experience in supervising volunteers, carrying out risk assessments, and hold a current Outdoor First Aid certificate.

Earner has a thorough understanding of how to use relevant tools safely and be familiar with how to inspect, maintain, and store tools correctly. Earner is able to communicate this information effectively to ensure the safety of volunteers and the public.

Earner has completed all statutory training requirements and has the necessary certificates required for facilitating practical conservation tasks associated with their ranger role. These may include those required to safely operate brush cutters and chainsaws, drive a tractor or a vehicle off-road, and for the safe application of pesticides.

Earner has demonstrated competence in the use of site management plans to deliver conservation objectives. As well as understanding and completing practical tasks associated with an integrated management plan, they are also able to demonstrate completion of activities by uploading evidence to electronic forms.

Earner has demonstrated an awareness of the wider contextual issues that are relevant to the practical conservation management of habitats and species and be effective at communicating these. These relevant issues include rapid biodiversity loss, climate change, landscape-scale recovery, catchment-level management, rewilding, species introduction, and current UK nature conservation policy.
