Emotional Intelligence is the capability of individuals to recognize their own emotions and those of others, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and manage/adjust emotions to adapt to environments or achieve one's goal(s). The Emotional Intelligence Badge is composed of four main skill categories: HEAR: Active Listening and Curiosity; THINK & FEEL: Diverse Perspectives; SEE: Action; SAY & DO: Change Intentions

Earning Criteria

Earners submit their evidence to an expert in Emotional Intelligence who then evaluates the evidence for competency. For the Silver level of this badge, earners possess an ability to attend to others in the following areas:

HEAR: Active Listening and Curiosity- Earner completes active listening role play exercise using Stand Out . Earner completes journal reflection work for their role play exercise.

THINK & FEEL: Diverse Perspectives - Earner completes the Empathy 360 assessment. Earner submits a journal entry with Insights, Questions, and Implications (IQI) to reflect on assessment results. Earner produces a gap analysis to help make sense of how they viewed themselves and others viewed them through the assessment.Earner reflects on Resource Center videos and articles. Earner successfully completes Finding Another Perspective workbook and submits reflection.

SEE: Action - Earner completes the 3 components of the Empathy Journal (Empathy Detective, Resource Overview, Critical Thinking IQI's) which builds a journey of evidence that reflects personal exploration of empathy.

SAY & DO: Change Intentions - Earner completes a 2-3 page Empathy Reflection; either done in a document or a recorded video submission on Stand Out. Earner submits a final paper that is a program design to implement a program at their organization/friends/family to engage others in an empathy journey.
