Along with Python and R, SQL is one of the most widely-used and in demand languages for data science, and is also used widely in business intelligence and web development. In this program, you will learn how and why databases are used to efficiently store and access massive quantities of data, as well as how to write basic SQL to manipulate and summarize data. This course is an ideal first step into data analytics: no prior skill in programming or statistics is expected.

Earning Criteria

Students will write queries in SQL to access and summarize data, including filtering, functions, grouping, sorting, and joins between tables. In addition, students will learn to create new databases and apply basic database design to efficiently organize and structure data. Students will be assessed on their completion of both written exercises (on the SQL portion) and well a quiz (on the database theory portion).
