The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt badge earner has demonstrated knowledge in the following areas: DMAIC applications (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control), Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Advanced Lean, Advanced DOE, SPC for non-normal distributions, Optimization, Scheduling & Sequencing, Effective and Efficient teamwork strategies as well as a variety of other tools and analysis methodologies. The earner has also successfully completed a Black Belt project in industry or non-profit agency.

Earning Criteria

This course is available to current Binghamton University students, non-Binghamton University students, Binghamton University alumni, and members of industry, non-profit, and government agencies. Requirements include knowledge/education in probability & statistics and/or quality control and a Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification from a recognized program, technical society, or another University's offering. (Prior certification can be from a "non-lean" Six Sigma program.)

This a self-paced, online, advanced course that will take 25-30 hours to complete and prepares team leaders to drive operational excellence using the DMAIC methodology. Building on Lean Six Sigma Green Belt skills, the course covers advanced topics including process capability, design of experiments, regression, SPC for non-normal distributions, and stakeholder analysis. Learners also develop project management, leadership, and team dynamics skills.

To earn the credential, the learner must pass the final exam with a score of 70% or higher and then complete a real-world Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project. Learners are given one year to complete the project with faculty support.

$1,950.00 - standard/industry; $1,850.00 - government employees, full-time non-Binghamton students, or Binghamton alumni (graduated in May 2024 or earlier); $925.00 - recent Binghamton University alumni (graduated in May 2024 or later); $925.00 - full-time current Binghamton University students and SUNY students; $200.00 - retake fee (must prove previous course registration).
