The badge earner can discuss and elaborate on the industrial revolution, the introduction of fossil fuels, and the history of energy. The earner understands the recent world energy production and consumption by energy source and the role of the sun and geothermal energy in formation of coal, oil, and natural gas. The earner can discuss aspects of nuclear energy (both fission and fusion) and the role of renewable energy, the socio-political issues of energy, and energy forecasting.

This course is open to all engineers, professionals, faculty and college-level students.

This is a self-paced, online course that will require 10-11 hours to complete and explores the past, present, and future of global energy systems, starting from the Industrial Revolution to emerging renewable technologies. Includes self-assessment quizzes (not graded) and a final exam (graded).
