The first step in managing pain is learning how to assess it well. In this course, participants learn the different types of pain & relate how both patient & provider characteristics impact pain assessment. They review a case study & discuss the biopsychosocial aspects of pain, including how bias occurs in the pain assessment process. They compare pain assessment tools & their efficacy. Finally, participants gain the knowledge to justify why a patient's report of pain should be respected.
