Penguin Random House License to Lead Workforce Training Certificate program is offered in partnership with Advantage C: A service of Carroll Community College. Completers of this program complete five training modules over a five month period, participate in on-site mentoring, and complete activities outside of class to apply learning to the workplace.

"License to Lead: Foundations" includes role and responsibility of Group/Team Leader at Penguin Random House, demonstrating professionalism and presence as a supervisor, acting as a role model to effectively transition from "buddy" to "boss" and understanding self and others using the "As I see myself" assessment. This module introduces implementing the self-study element of the program.

"License to Lead: Relating" includes fundamental communication skills necessary for supervisors, fundamentals of motivation, feedback and relationship building through adaptive communication including verbal and non-verbal communication and listening skills.

"License to Lead: Connecting" includes successfully managing crucial or difficult conversations, handling conflict management and resistance, managing under-performance of others, and demonstrating HR-supported people policies.

"License to Lead: Directing" includes understanding and avoiding micromanagement, delegating effectively to others, building team and creating individual accountability, using coaching techniques to empower and drive results, creating an inclusive and respectful environment for all employees and fostering development of individual team members.

"License to Lead: Executing" includes supervising a high‐performance team and getting work done through others, setting team priorities and goals, effectively managing projects and deadlines, increasing productivity, employing time management skills and identifying & managing stakeholders.
