Critical Thinking for the 21st Century

Earners demonstrate proficiency in thinking critically and creatively through work-place simulations in four core sub-competency areas: 1) gathering and assessing relevant information; 2) identifying patterns; 3) questioning assumptions; and 4) drawing well-reasoned conclusions. Earners can distinguish, recognize, and identify relevant information in order to draw conclusion and analyze information. Earners will also receive a detailed breakdown of strengths and weaknesses for each module.
Earning Criteria

Students will complete the module "Gather and Assess Relevant Information" with a minimum score of 85%. This module works with students to: distinguish facts from opinions; recognize the role of purpose and bias in a position; identify core issues; provide thoughtful analysis; identify trustworthy sources; and use evidence to support a recommendation.

Students will complete the module "Identify Patterns" with a minimum score of 85%. This module works with students to: make sense of seemingly unrelated data sets with multiple variables; recognize trends in the context of their learning; perform thorough and thoughtful research; utilize visual aids; reflect on the meaning of the patterns.

Students will complete the module "Question Assumptions" with a minimum score of 85%. This module works with students to: identify assumptions embedded in statements; explain approach for determining if assumptions are true; pull out underlying assumptions from statements; and identify unstated assumptions.

Students will complete the module "draw conclusions" with a minimum score of 85%. This module works with students to: make connections from multiple sources of information; use evidence to support a conclusion and make a recommendation; identify key details and issues; and analyze information in light of key considerations.
