Violence Prevention

This two-day experience, facilitated by the Office of Violence Prevention, engages participants in both preventative and response measures for professionals to recognize how violence manifests within educational spaces. 6 hours of training in prevention theory, bystander intervention tactics, and action planning will prepare future educators to change cultures in their classrooms to be based in respect and empathy, rather than power and control.

Earning Criteria

Earners have participated in a two-day training facilitated by the Office of Violence prevention. Participants have practiced intervention skills to empower gender equity in the classroom, and refined prevention-based or response-based actions. They have investigated case studies in gender-based violence in educational spaces. They have worked through the spectrum of violence to prepare and practice pro-social interventions in the classroom.
Standards
The Wisconsin Social and Emotional Learning Vision states that, ‘children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.’
