At this stage, individuals can understand sentences and expressions about daily life, like personal details, shopping, and local geography. They can handle routine interactions, exchange information on familiar topics, and describe their background and environment simply. This level builds the foundation for more fluent and comprehensive language skills.

Earning Criteria

  • Understanding: Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • Speaking: Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Writing: Can write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs.
  • Passed with Honours are conferred upon students who have achieved a grade of between 90-100% which takes into account all homework and a final formal assessment.
