Health Communication in Remote Communities

This short course will enable HealthLAB staff, students and volunteers to develop competency in communicating health messages in remote communities in an understandable form to people of a range of ages and levels of health literacy and English literacy. Training will be delivered before and during HealthLABs where course participants will run a health-themed station and deliver health messages and respond to questions using strength-based language and ensuring a culturally safe space.

Earning Criteria

Activity 1 involves learning and demonstrating written knowledge of each competency in a workbook. Complete six core units and 1 elective unit in the workbook.

Activity 2 includes running a HealthLAB station to deliver health messaging and respond to HealthLAB participant questions. Respond to questions in the workbook to self-report application of knowledge. Supervisors will also report ways that the student demonstrated competencies.
