Site Survey Using Drones (Introductory)

Indigenous rangers learn to use drones responsibly under Elder authorisation and with a technical trainer to collect useful and useable data that supports their caring for Country work through collaborative research projects or monitoring programs. Rangers learn to use drones in a culturally safe way, and to launch, land and fly the drone and take photos of country from the air. This introductory badge is supported by the CDU-CSIRO-NAILSMA Healthy Country digital training program.

Earning Criteria

Activity 1 includes collaborating with Traditional Owners to ensure the right people are present and have provided authorisation for drones to be flown on their Country, map the area to be surveyed with Traditional Owners including areas that can be flown over and areas that cannot be flown over, and discuss and agree on rules for drone use in the area to be surveyed.

Activity 2 includes working with an accredited operator to use a drone in a culturally safe way, launch and land a drone, fly drone in a controlled way, and take photos of country from the air with the drone.
