The Master Food Preserver program is a volunteer training program focused on education and service in food preservation and safety. Master Food Preservers are certified Extension volunteers who work to extend Clemson Extension's food preservation educational programs to adults and youth. The MFP serves as a resource to the community to provide research-based, non-biased information from Clemson Cooperative Extension Service and USDA.

Earning Criteria

Completion of the 8 course modules with 80% or more. Engagement with pre- and post- knowledge checks, instructional videos, resources, and content discussion, attending a two-day intensive workshop and fulfilling 30-hours of educational service receive the title “South Carolina Master Food Preserver.” Content: Basics to Preserving; Pressure, Water Bath, and Atmospheric Steam Canning; Principles of Pickling; Jellies, Jams, and Soft Spreads; Drying Foods; Freezing Fruits/Vegetables; Fermentation.
