Foundations of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

This program is designed to broaden understanding of multiculturism. Through an examination of the major social institutions present in society and their relationship to power, conflict, and social change, students will investigate concepts such as privilege, oppression, and bias as it pertains to social class, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and ethnicity. Students will expand their knowledge of diversity issues, thereby increasing awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences.

The Foundations of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Micro-Credential involves three 3-credit classes: Introduction to Sociology, Cultural Diversity, and Social Problems.

Regardless of industry, knowledge of issues pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical to providing safe and welcoming environments for all. This program will help to enable learners to uncover hidden biases, understand power differentials, and recognize unfair institutional policies and practices. This program can play a meaningful role in raising awareness and promoting positive change in the lives and members of our community.

Capstone Experience: Students will be required to complete a paper that involves an integration of the knowledge obtained from the aforementioned courses and applied to a practical experience.
