The Commission on Nurse Certification developed the CNL Certification Retired category to recognize certified Clinical Nurse Leaders who have retired from their professional nursing career. If the individual with a granted CNL-Retired status re-enters an active clinical role which requires current CNL certification they may submit to CNC materials to meet the CNL certification renewal requirements.

Earning Criteria

Graduate from an accredited CNL Master's Program or Post-Master Certificate Program or be a student in their last term.

Retire from a CNL role with an active CNL certification.

Have a current unrestricted RN license at the time of retirement.

CNC’s Clinical Nurse Leader Certification Program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). CNC is also a proud member of NCCA.
