Earning Criteria

• To apply for the certification exam a candidate must create and account with the Competency and Credentialing Institute which administers the certification. To complete the online application, the following information is required: • Personal contact information • RN license information • Employer contact information • Supervisor contact information Further detail on the data needed for the application may be found on the CCI website. All fees must be paid in full prior to testing.
• A current, unrestricted RN license in the state or country where current practice occurs.
• Currently working full- or part-time in perioperative nursing, including nursing education, administration, research or clinical practice.
• A minimum of 2 years and 2,400 hours of experience as a perioperative registered nurse (RN). A minimum of 50% (1,200 hours) of those hours must be in the intraoperative setting.
• To earn the CNOR credential applicants must pass the certification examination covering the knowledge required to practice as a perioperative nurse. All examination questions have the same format; multiple choice questions, four possible answers with only correct answer. A score of 620 of 800 possible points is required for passing. The CNOR certification examination is developed in accordance with psychometric best practices and principles of the certification industry.
