Use of Force Aware (4 Hours)

This course is designed to educate students on current use of force laws and practices. The student will evaluate case law as well as use of force continuums. The student will become aware of how vital the ability to assess a situation is at the time you are in it and how to legally protect themselves as well as properly and ethically document use of force situations.

Skills

Demonstrate competent decision-making decisions when analyzing situations.
Demonstrate knowledge of case law and legalities pertaining to use of force.
Differentiate between use of force and use of deadly force situations

Earning Criteria

Complete 4 - hour course
Completion of written exam with 70% or higher score.
Recognize the case facts of Tennessee vs Garner
Demonstrate the ability to make proper decisions in use of force scenarios
List the only acceptable reasons for use of force according to the United States Supreme Court.
