European language skills for Business

Knowledge of foreign languages plays a vital part in promoting communication, successfully establishing contacts in the international marketplace, and enhancing career opportunities. Alongside some management programmes students have the opportunity to acquire a working knowledge of a second commercially useful language. Focusing on spoken rather than written skills, languages are offered at the Foundation level in Business French or Business Spanish.

Languages were offered at Beginners or Intermediate level in Business French and Business Spanish. The focus was on spoken rather than written skills and by the end of the course students will have reached a level that will allow them to understand and be able to hold simple conversations with a business edge. Languages classes were scheduled from January to May, on-line. Students attended for two hours per week for 20 weeks in virtual classrooms, in their evenings, plus informal peer practice.

Only students with an attendance record of more than 70% were eligible for assessment. The Language modules are assessed by online exams that can include Listening, Reading and Oral assessment. This credential is issued to students who have achieved both required attendance and a Pass mark in the assessments.
