Earners of this badge are qualified to administer x-rays in a dental setting across the province of Ontario using film, direct digital imaging, and indirect digital imaging techniques. Earners are competent in taking x-rays using both the bisecting and paralleling techniques. This certificate is available to level 1 and level 2 dental assistants.

Earning Criteria

Earners must either be internationally trained dentists or have a minimum of one year of chairside experience in a dental setting in Ontario.

Successfully pass theory exam with a minimum 75%

Successfully complete practical assessment by taking a select number of x-rays using both the paralleling and bisecting techniques. Images will be assessed for technique and imaging errors.
Standards
Persons wishing to administer x-rays in a dental setting in Ontario must abide by the HARP Act and its associated regulations. Educational standards with regards to radiation protection are detailed in the HARP Act and administered by the Ministry of Health X-Ray Inspection Services (XRIS)
Any course provider wishing to offer training dental radiography that would allow students to administer x-rays in a dental setting in Ontario must be approved by the Ministry of Health XRIS.
