Participants that complete this badge are able to define what a challenge/ropes course is, understand the stages of team development, explain basic concepts of working with groups from different demographics in a ropes course setting, demonstrate basic set up/take down, and use of different types of spotted activities/low ropes course initiatives and the (equipment) used, lead a variety of warm-up, spotting, trust, and group problem-solving activities typically used in a ropes course experience.

Earning Criteria

  • Complete a 16-hour training at Stony Acres Ropes/Challenge Course. This will consist of instruction and discussion sessions, actively participating in the warm-up, spotting, trust, and group problem-solving activities on various low ropes course elements, demonstrating spotting and participant safety skills, leading reflection/debriefing sessions, and belaying participants on the Stony Acres Climbing Tower.
  • Participants complete and receive at least 80% on a written and practical test.
  • Participants will work for at least one challenge course group at Stony Acres during the current academic year.
