Laboratory Safety Training

Earners show expertise in the fundamentals of safe work in Chemistry and Biology laboratories. Interactive engagement will be utilized in an in-person setting to reinforce the social nature of safety knowledge and practices. Earners develop these skills through regular meetings and supplemental online instruction and assessments. Training content is developed through collaboration with safety professionals from other institutions and organizations.

Earning Criteria

Students are required to have completed General Chemistry I and II to participate in the course.

Complete a total of eight modules targeted at industry standards for safety training and knowledge with customization for Elon student needs and anticipated experiences. Each module is in person, each approximately 45 minutes long. Additional time will be required outside of class to do the brief follow up assignments and quizzes.

Attend training sessions hosted by the Chemistry department, scheduled once or twice a month over the course of Fall and Spring semesters of a given academic year.
