The Global Learning: COIL microcredential will allow students to increase their global and intercultural awareness while refining their intercultural communication skills. Earners will become more culturally competent, global citizens who will be able to recognize the diverse perspectives of people from different cultures. This micro-credential will be of interest to those looking to gain cultural sensitivity and global knowledge, and soft skills to address diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Earning Criteria

To be admitted to the Global Learning: COIL microcredential, students must be matriculated into a Farmingdale State College degree program, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, have completed EGL 102 Composition II: Writing about Literature and Level I of a foreign language (either at FSC, transferred, or assessed via a proficiency exam), have met the application requirements for the study abroad program, and complete the Microcredential Application on Etrieve

• To achieve the Global Learning: COIL microcredential, students must complete one of the following three options:

i. Complete two COIL-designated courses at FSC

ii. Complete one COIL-designated course at FSC and complete at least Level II (second semester) of a foreign language taken at FSC

iii. Complete one COIL-designated course at FSC and complete a SUNY-Sponsored, FSC faculty-led study abroad experience

• Students must also complete a final paper/capstone project in the Department in which the COIL academic coordinator is based.
