The Visual Arts Technician Internship, offered through the Gen Art Academie is a course created by Visual Arts educator, author, faculty head and Director of the Gen Art Academie, Mrs Joanne Saville. It is delivered through the Visual Arts Faculty, and is designed specifically for student graduates who have an interest in the visual arts and studio practices. Interns develop key professional and technical skills related to supporting the running of an art department and creation of art works.

Earning Criteria

To be awarded the Visual Art Technician Internship, the applicant must submit an application and participate in the interview process. Only one Visual Art internship will be offered each year and will go to to successful applicant in a competitive process led by the Director of the Gen Art Academie. The Internship is open to a candidate (post Year 12) who has a background in visual arts and/or is studying in a field related to visual art.

The Professional experience requires the applicant to attend the workplace at the scheduled times and undertake the work outlined in the job description and engage in the department activities as required. The internship is overseen by the Director of Gen Academie/ Faculty leader who will review the intern's progress, output and skill development and will provide verbal feedback and guidance on a fortnightly basis.

Internship activities and skills development: The intern will provide classroom support; develop technical expertise in areas such as framing; 3D/ inkjet printing; laser cutting & ceramic firing; will manage stock control, ordering & purchasing and will curate and display artworks.

Semester Review: The intern's development and performance will monitored by observation and will be supported and with feedback & guidance. The intern is required to perform technical skills at a professional standard, including following of safety protocols. Displays and exhibitions will be of a high quality, as verified by the Director/Faculty Head. Interns will produce a written evaluation and reflection each semester along with photographic evidence of their work.
