This badge will prepare Program Officers at grantmaking institutions for conducting financial analyses and due diligence within the context of grantmaking activities. Earners are able to identify and apply criteria for financial health based on the profile of the program/grantee, recognize and apply various sources of financial information in the grantmaking process, analyze and synthesize project and organizational budgets and their component parts and effectively complete IRS Form 990.

Earning Criteria

The Financial Analysis Course includes curriculum, activities, materials and resources in topics including grant proposal review, project and operating budgeting, financial audits, financial statements and ratio analysis.

Two IRS Form 990 workshops follow a detailed presentation and include a variety of activities to promote learning and satisfy learning objectives that include understanding the Form 990 and its purpose, identifying key elements, investigating and analyzing a Form 990 through an equity lens, developing an understanding of Form 990 as an organizational tool and the information it communicates and understand the power of a Form 990 as a tool for the philanthropic sector.

Competencies of each course will be assessed using multiple choice questions, brief essays, quality of discussions and activities during the course and the completion of all course requirements.
Standards
This course may be used as continuing education towards accreditation by the American College of Financial Services for the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation.
