Earning Criteria
-
Earners must volunteer at two of the Griffith Sport nominated sporting events within the calendar year to qualify for the credential. Earners nominate into the program via the online form, and confirm their expected attendance with Griffith Sport staff. Attendance at the sporting events will be marked by their immediate Supervisor, as well as the nominated Griffith Sport Event Crew staff member. Expected attendance, and actual attendance will be cross-referenced at the conclusion of each event.
-
Earners have the opportunity to be a Course Marshall at an event(s). Earners will be in charge of directing participants (through the use of verbal cues and hand gestures) along the correct course route. Earners are responsible for the control of pedestrian and vehicle access points at their designated section of the course. Earners must be on the lookout for any members of the general public who wish to use the route, and advise them to be mindful moving forward.
-
Earners who are Course Marshalls are required to give vocal encouragement to participants as they pass by – and also be able to let them know where the closest facilities are (bathrooms, water stations, check-points etc.). Earners must be on the lookout for unsportsmanlike behaviour from participants, and oversee the designated area of the course and remove any obstacles or rubbish before the event commences.
-
Students will be given the opportunity to volunteer in a secondary position, this may be one of the following roles: Presentations Assistant, Race Pack Collection Assistant, Bag Drop Assistant, Timing Marshall, Water Station Assistant, Bump-In/Out Crew, Social Media Assistant.
-
Earners will demonstrate their skills in radio communications protocols (there is a strict code of conduct and terminology use for event communications via radio). These skills follow these guidelines: State your name and then the person you want to contact, wait for a response, the person being contacted then responds with ‘go ahead’, the communication goes ahead. There is only one person to be speaking at any given time, and any sensitive information is to be shared via mobile communications.
-
All volunteers will be checked-in by the Event Officer or Event Manager to confirm their onsite attendance at the event. Each volunteer will be assigned to work under a Supervisor – this Supervisor will complete a post-event report which will outline if the badge earner did/didn’t complete all their requirements as outlined in their role descriptions. This information is cross-referenced into a full spreadsheet of all volunteers at the closure of the event.
