Earners will demonstrate awareness of strategies for ensuring effective translation and interpretation of multilingual information related to crises and disasters. Develop skills in simplifying language to maximise translatability and learn to consider cultural nuances. Emphasis is also placed on analysing difficult-to-translate terms, using generative AI to maximise efficiency and minimise cost in translation to prepare students as crisis and disaster communicators in diverse, global contexts.

Earners will have attended a series of 5 x 2 hour workshops.

Earners will have collaborated with international and industry partners to clarify problems and seek advice and feedback related to multilingual crisis and disaster communication.

Earners will have explored a diverse range of strategies to solve issues with multilingual crisis and disaster communication using the principles of clear and explicit language and the capabilities of generative AI.

Earners will have presented a clear and culturally responsive translation of crisis and/or disaster communication from an industry partner.
