Advanced American Sign Language Badge - Undergraduate

Authorized by Grand Valley State University

This badge signifies advanced communication skills in conversational ASL and an understanding of Deaf culture. Successful learners will be able to use ASL in extended communication and will be able to explain key features of Deaf culture. This badge is not a credential for providing interpreting services to Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals. GVSU is not authorized to issue interpreting credentials. In Michigan, the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs administers interpreting credentials.

Earning Criteria

ASL 203, ASL 421 * Both classes must be taken at Grand Valley State University. Courses transferred from other institutions do not meet the requirements for this badge. ** Prerequisites for ASL 203 may be satisfied through transfer credit from another approved accredited institution.
