Certificants who earn this credential demonstrate the ability as a licensed practical/vocational nurse to gather information, intervene, and evaluate in helping patients and their families toward the goal of maintaining optimal functioning and quality of life within the limits of the disease process while considering factors such as pain and comfort measures; treatments and procedures; education and advocacy; and interdisciplinary and collaborative practice issues.

Earning Criteria

Hold a current, unrestricted practical/vocational nursing license in the United States, its territories.

Must have 500 hours in the most recent 12 months or 1,000 hours in the most recent 24 months prior to applying for the examination.

Achieve a passing score on the CHPLN® exam.
Standards
The CHPLN® program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing (ABSNC).
