Certificants who earn this credential demonstrate the ability, at the registered nurse level, to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate in helping patients and their families maintain optimal functioning and quality of life within the limits of the disease process.

Earning Criteria

Hold a current, unrestricted registered nurse license in the United States, its territories, or the equivalent in Canada.

Must have hospice and palliative nursing practice of 500 hours in the most recent 12 months or 1,000 hours in the most recent 24 months prior to applying for the examination.

Achieve a passing score on the CHPN® exam.
Standards
The CHPN® program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing (ABSNC).
