Building a Culture of Accessibility & Inclusion

In an effort to help promote accessibility best practices in all course modalities, CTL offers the Building a Culture of Accessibility and Inclusion workshop. Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines and QM Standard 8 for Accessibility as a guide, this multi-week workshop will run as a cohort model. Faculty can sign up for one of the scheduled sessions each semester. Scheduled sessions will be 2-weeks long and run asynchronously.

- Define and discuss the terms accessibility, disability, inclusivity, and the laws and policies that govern them
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic accessibility supports, such as text styles, alt-text, captions, etc.
- Implement best practices for accessibility, universal design, and other inclusive teaching strategies in future courses.
Earning Criteria

Deliverables include: -Becoming familiar with the legalities of accessibility including UDL Guidelines and QM Standard 8 -Creating accessible text using Blackboard tools and Microsoft Office applications -Using accessibility checkers and other web-based resources on documents and Blackboard pages -Adding alt-text to images and links -Utilizing captions on videos -Diversifying approaches to lesson materials and assignments -How and when to address student accommodations
Standards
Earn 85% or better on all required activities within the workshop.
