Earning Criteria

Meet all eligibility requirements, including teacher registration, two recent successful performance assessments and Principal endorsement.

Attend three full-day workshops run by Independent Schools Victoria to understand and explore the requirements of National Certification, including awareness of the language of the descriptors, collection of evidence and writing annotations.

Submit a portfolio of annotated evidence demonstrating all 37 descriptors of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers; provide two observation reports and a personal reflection addressing the Standards. Nominated referees verify the practice described in the portfolio.

Provide a written description of a Lead Initiative describing a project designed to build the capacity of colleagues within the school or across schools. It must demonstrate leadership capacity, impact colleagues’ knowledge and practice, and be sustainable.

Be successful in an assessment of practice by an accredited external assessor, including direct observation of practice, professional dialogue to reflect on the observed classes and a discussion with the Principal or delegate.

Be recommended to the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) by the Independent Schools Victoria Certifying Authority as a Nationally Certified Highly Accomplished Teacher.
