CHWs are important for communities & healthcare organizations, connecting individuals & families to needed services and information. The CHW badge holder demonstrates successful completion of the CHW program encompassing a comprehensive base of CHW knowledge. CHWs complete 3 courses: Foundations for CHWs with lecture & lab, Health & Wellness, outlines basic chronic illnesses & Community Public Health frameworks navigational tools to healthcare resources. CHWs complete an internship.

RATIONALE: Badging this program demonstrates to workforce decision-makers that students who have earned the LAGCC Community Health Worker badge qualify for employment as Community Health Workers or as trained professionals in the myriad of titles in healthcare with similar roles.

The Community Health Worker Certificate Training Program is a contextualized program that provides instruction and activities to build academic skills while preparing students to enter or advance in the workplace as a CHW. They receive extensive career development services and upon program completion earn a certificate of completion from LaGuardia and the LAGCC CHW badge.

GOAL 1: LAGCC CHWs learn to identify the 8 nationally recognized CHW core competencies, understand the roles and responsibilities of a CHW and learn to communicate effec-tively with community members regarding healthcare needs.

GOAL 2: LAGCC CHWs learn to search and catalogue community healthcare resources and to categorize the access pathway to health benefits in NYC.

GOAL 3: LAGCC CHWs develop a theoretical and practical overview of public health with a strong em-phasis in social justice and the role of policy in health outcomes.
