This course surveys crimes and their punishments under the state and federal justice systems in the United States. It looks at the reasons for punishing crimes, defines many crimes and discusses how sentences are determined. It also looks at liability for inchoate crimes and accomplice liability. Finally, the course covers defenses to criminal charges and when they are applicable.
