They have demonstrated intermediate level competency and understanding as it relates to fault finding, troubleshooting, and field restoration to remedy outages.

Earning Criteria

Earners of the Emergency Restoration Workshop badge have completed a comprehensive course that couples theory along with an emphasis on hands-on training that simulates actual field restorations for both retrievable and non-retrievable slack scenarios. The theoretical part of the course is broken down into Optical Network Failures, Identifying and Locating, Proper Planning, and Post Restoration.
Hands-on Station - Build a Network Earners of the Emergency Restoration badge have built upon their knowledge of network construction and have fabricated a fiber optic system comprised of two panels, one closure, and 200' of cable.
Hands-on Station - Build an Emergency Restoration Kit Earners of the Emergency Restoration badge have applied the knowledge obtained in the planning module to construct an emergency restoration kit containing a splice case, 100' of cable, and consumables to prepare for the inevitable.
Hands-on Station - Test and Repair a Failed Network Earners of the Emergency Restoration badge have demonstrated proficiency in identifying faults, damage, and other contributors to degraded performance or network outages. Using their previously built restoration kit and network, the earners have properly tested and where required have identified faults in need of repair. Using the restoration kit they are able to make an emergency repair to their network and verify performance.
