Nursing Simulation - Level 1

Earners have received documented training in simulation, including the Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML) model. They conduct a simulation, receive feedback on lesson plan and scenario development with a simulation supervisor, and create a simulation learning plan. This training is in compliance with the Wisconsin Board of Nursing Chapter N1.08.(5m) and fulfills INACSL Standards of Best Practice.

Earning Criteria

Complete a tour of the Health Simulation Center at Madison College

Locate simulation scenario documents and resources

Complete all competencies in the online training series with a passing score

Complete training in the Debriefing for Meaningful Learning Model (DML)

Conduct a nursing simulation adhering to scenarios and lesson plans

Observe use of DML after a simulation

Lead a DML following simulation and receive feedback as part of a coaching opportunity with a Super User or Champion using a DML rubric

Develop a Simulation Faculty Learning Plan

Evaluate student performance in a simulation experience

Use various industry software platforms to run and record the simulation and manage electronic health records

Implement the INASCL Standards for Skills and Clinical Learning
Standards
Facilitation methods are varied, and use of a specific method is dependent on the learning needs of the participants and the expected outcomes. A facilitator assumes responsibility and oversight for managing the entire simulation-based experience.
All simulation-based experiences include a planned debriefing session aimed at improving future performance.
