EMCC Coding Basics

Earners of the Junior Programmer: Coding Basics badge have a fundamental understanding of basic programming terms and concepts and the ability to create functional code using object-oriented programming concepts. They understand basic principles of teamwork, initiative, and customer service skills and their importance in the workplace. Earners use this combination of skills to demonstrate how to develop a program to solve a specific problem they may encounter in the workplace.

Earning Criteria

  • Pass either CST 143 or CST 154 with an 85% or better
  • Pass CST 170 with an 85% or better
  • Complete guided reflection questions related to developing a professional portfolio (template provided)
  • Complete Work-Ready Action Plan: Students will research one job opening and use it as a framework for reflection – based on what they have learned so far, they will create a reflective action plan answering the following two questions:  1. What skills do I have now that make me qualified for this job?  2. What skills do I still need to develop in order to be qualified?
